“I am weary, my soul, my wandering has lasted too long, my search for myself outside of myself.” Carl Jung
Eagerly anticipated, Ultima Thule is Catherine Young’s follow-up work to her critically-acclaimed sell-out show Woman Stood Regardless (2014). It premieres in Cork April 9th at the Firkin Crane before its Dublin premiere at Project Arts Centre April 14th-16th. Ultima Thule, inspired by Carl Jung's Liber Novus (The Red Book), presents a voyage of discovery into the psyche, exploring the road we take through life in search of soul and our quest to find home. This highly physical piece with an all-female cast of outstanding international performers, set to live percussion and voice, digs deep to find out what connects us, so that we can guide each other home.
Young, known for her thoughtful, engaging work that touches deeply with audiences, returns with this new work that questions life, humanity – its struggle and its beauty. Her choreography verges from the delicate to the primal and in Ultima Thule, she comes together once more with composer Michael Fleming (“Queen of Ireland”) on an outstanding score in collaboration with percussionists Brian Fleming, Martin Sharer, vocalist Michelle O’Rourke and dancers Marion Cronin, Magdalena Hylak, Ivonne Kalter, Anna Kaszuba & AnnaMari Keskinen. Ultima Thule, a high energy tour-de-force set to spectacular live percussion and voice, is not to be missed.
