Big Bang Festival of Rhythm

Commissioned by The Big Bang Festival in 2015, 2016, 2017 & 2018 this participatory dance project led and choreographed by Catherine Young in the run up to the festival each year has resulted in a high energy West African dance piece engaging local dance and drumming enthusiasts in Dublin. In 2017 Catherine set an excerpt of "Welcoming the Stranger" on participants who were joined by members of the original cast for the performance featuring both African dance and Palestinian Dabke and in 2018 she set an excerpt of "It takes a village." The piece each year has been performed as part of The Big Bang Festival & Improvised Music Company's "Hotter than July." 2017 Trailer
